The Sheffield Traditional Fiddlers Society

Music

The tunes come from many and diverse sources, the usual Celtic dance music is there in abundance, but also Scandinavian, American, European and English traditional music are well represented, as well as the music of our local area and a smattering of early music. We think it very important to try and accomodate everyone who comes along, regardless of standard, so we play a variety of tunes, some easy, others more complicated, and mostly in 2 or 3 part harmony. Some of the parts will be simpler than others so everyone can join in. We run occasional day-long workshops where we hire a special tutor who teaches us some new tunes and maybe a different slant on the music. Some of the music we play is available to download as Midi files from this website, it is also intended to have the music available in abc format. We have lots of sheet music available to members, some of the printing of which was kindly paid for by the Music Sound Foundation.
